Leonid Milkin, a 29 year old sergeant in the Washington National Guard stationed in Iraq, was told Monday that his wife, two young children and sister-in-law had been killed in a fire that destroyed their Kirkland, Washington home. Soon after, he had to be told that they had been murdered. This is only a few minutes away from where I live, and here are some pictures that I took today.
Even days later, there was a steady stream of people coming by to leave flowers at a makeshift memorial outside the home.

Justin was five. Andrew was only three.

The house itself was destroyed, inside and out.

The good guys are on the scene. They aren’t releasing a lot of information yet, but that’s ok with me. I want them to get it right and put this creep away for a long time, or preferably put him down altogether.

Across the street is the duplex where the perp was living.

The alleged murderer drug-addled scum set the fire deliberately trying to cover up the crime. He told police that he must have been drinking too much because he just woke up inside their house all covered in blood. He had better get a good lawyer with a brilliant excuse like that. Of course, the liberals at the Seattle papers are already writing sympathetic articles paving the way for his “blackout” defense. Try counting how many things they throw into their articles about the poor guy’s troubles. If I could just get the pictures of little Justin and Andrew out of my mind, I could almost be amused at the antics of a liberal simultaneously reporting horrifying facts, while desperately trying to humanize and excuse the perp.
Conner Schierman is expected to be charged with four counts of aggravated 1st degree murder on Monday. Until then he is cooling his heels unless he can come up with 4 million he hasn’t spent on booze and drugs yet.

Olga Milkin would have turned 29 Saturday. A very good Seattle Times Obituary by Lisa Chiu.
Nothing else in the Seattle Times or Seattle Post Intelligence for Sunday, except a mention in an opinion piece that’s not worthwhile.
King County Journal for Sunday has the defense lawyers and psychiatrists giving the odds for the inevitable “Blackout Defense”.
UPDATE:
King County Prosecutor Norm Maleng has filed four counts of aggravated first degree murder and one count of first degree arson against Conner Schierman today. He also announced that they have surveillance video of him filling two gas containers at a nearby gas station. For those of who still buying the “blackout” defense, stay tuned. Without elaborating at this time, the prosecutor said “There is compelling evidence of premeditation.”

VIA Michele Malkin’s site to Right Angle that has a link to comments on AOL news. While there are absolutely disgusting messages on there of theories that wife had an affair with the suspect and he went nuts, to blaming Bush for this tragedy, there are also messages of support. What was even better was that there were people shouting down the disgusting elements. Some posters got lambasted for their outright filthy, disgusting and downright evil comments. Even though I was really angry to see people turn this tragedy into a political issue and see people blame the victims or blame the husband/father, I was also pleased to see rational, compassionate people come to the forefront. This is a tragedy and it should not be turned into a right or left issue. This is about some scumbag who gave into his demons (alcohol and drugs) and annihalated a family. I truly believe capital punishment should be laid on the table. There is no excuse for this. He should not be excused because he got bombed one night. That’s my $0.02 worth.
Hi Byron,
I found your site courtesy of Michelle Malkin. I cannot believe it! I’ve linked to your site through mine:

No one should have to come home to that, politics notwithstanding.

Sgt Leonid Milkin and Unimaginable Horror…
I cannot imagine the horror and grief Sgt Milkin is experiencing. Comments were made to the press about how well he’s holding up. I suspect he’s in shock. How could a person possibly grasp the enormity of such a horrific loss?…
I cannot believe the new lows these Bush haters sink to each week. Anyone who would rejoice in something as heinous as this is not even human. I salute this hero soldier and extend my prayers and sympathy for him.
How weak is any expression of sympathy and grief in the face of this inhuman crime. We can only pray that the Master of the Universe will give relief to the poor souls ripped from life by a monster and to the dear soldier. As for the slime sucking, slack-jawed, drooling, underevolved, web-footed, sibling-parented cretins who find pleasure in this crime, the rot in their guts and the worms that slither around in their brains will give them screaming pain as they crawl their way through life.
I would love to tell all the Anti-American idiots if they hate America so bad..why don’t you LEAVE?
I really wish they would all pack-up and move to North Korea or Iran!
The babies..
Hey, thanks for blogging on this–I linked from Michelle Malkin. I too live in Kirkland not far from this family. I was shocked and deeply saddened by this horrible and senseless crime. A friend of mine has a “cul de sac” test. If you wouldn’t want a criminal to be able to live in your cul de sac, they should get the chair. I think that capital punishment was created expressly for people like this monster. Larissa
You are welcome, Larissa. Seeing the local press trying to spin this to excuse the behavior of this creep confirms for me the truth of my favorite quote from Frost. More people need to get on their own side on the issue of crime.
what?? I read all the reports from the press and see nothing where they are trying to excuse this. They have presented “blackout” point of views from experts. How does this make them left-wing biased? more than likely that’s the defense the perp will use anyway so who not put that information out there?
people need to get a grip and drop the whole “left wing media against the USA ” garbage. turn off O’Reilly et al and think for yourselves. bunch of freaking lemmings in this country. how is trying to politicize every damn thing that is written constructive?????
Why bring politics into this horrific story? I don’t get that at all.
I, too, hope he gets the death penalty for his crimes. I don’t buy the “blackout” theory for an instant, especially considering how he apparently had the cognitive ability to shower (in the victim’s home), steal clothes (from the victim’s closet - likely the surviving husband’s clothes, which somehow sickens me all the more), go to a gas station, purchase two gallons of gas, come back to the victim’s home, douse the house (and the victims themselves), and set it ablaze.
Yeah, I can totally see how blacking out meshes with those actions…or I could if I were also a cold-blooded killer.
While I have sympathy for the pain Conner’s family and friends have and will endure, I have a million times the sympathy for the survivors of the victims - and zero sympathy for Conner himself.
Why didn’t he pick up a phone and call the rehab center, or a sponsor, instead of picking up a bottle (if he drank that night at all)?
My heart goes out to the family and friends of the victims in this case. I can’t begin to imagine the horrors that lurk in their dreams.
I hope they fry Conner in the electric chair…

*who happens to be a liberal
I LOVE AMERICA AND I WILL DIE FOR MY COUNTRY!
But! I also think it is wrong to hate somebody that you don’t know and especially when you don’t know ANY of the facts to this case. If he did it then yes he will and should pay…but if he didn’t then let it be proven in court.
Why don’t you set aside your hate and just wait for a trial?
We all cry the statement “Innocent until proven guilty” if its against us or somebody we know….BUT are damn quick to cry guilty before a trial and evidence is proven it so! Its not anybody but ourselves that point the finger in this country!
Whatever comes of this I will not judge.
Thanks for letting me put out my thoughts.
