My Own Side

Surprising Hezbollah

There’s a very revealing AP article here (an expanded version is here).

A senior Hezbollah official said Tuesday the guerrilla group did not expect Israel to react so strongly to its capture of two Israeli soldiers.

He said Hezbollah had expected “the usual, limited response” from Israel to the July 12 cross-border raid, in which three Israelis were killed.

In the past, he said, Israeli responses to Hezbollah actions included sending commandos into Lebanon to seize Hezbollah officials or briefly targeting specific Hezbollah strongholds.

He said the Shiite group had anticipated there would be negotiations on exchanging the Israeli soldiers for three Lebanese prisoners in Israeli jails, with Germany acting as a mediator as it did before.

In other words, Hezbollah terrorists feel that Israel is cheating at the game they have been playing for decades. It goes something like this.

  • We stab you and run.
  • Repeat.
  • Eventually, after an appropriate period of time that must pass to demonstrate to the “International Community” that you are showing the appropriate restraint, you lash back.
  • The “International Community” gears up to condemn you for ”disproportionate use of force“.
  • You retreat.
  • We slink back.
  • Go to step 1.

Programmers call this an “infinite loop”. The media calls it a “cycle of violence”. Apparently Israeli Prime Minister Olmert decided to call it something unprintable and change the rules.

It’s never too late to change, but on this one Israel does need to take some responsibility for the terrorists expectations. In the past, Israel has exchanged over a thousand killers for a handful of Israeli soldiers and even the bodies of Israeli soldiers. Hezbollah has come to expect this. It can only be a good thing that Hezbollah’s expectations are now being changed.

9/11 Conspiracy Theorists

At a recent protest against a President Bush visit in Medina, Washington the 9/11-was-an-inside-job crowd was well represented.

Someone is going to have to tell me why believing this is so appealing to these folks. Frankly, our government is so totally inept at keeping any secrets nowadays that it takes the faith of Abraham to believe that a conspiracy of this magnitude could be kept covered up for longer than one New York Times printing cycle.

However, it is consistent with my favorite Frost quote. While sick beasts that worship death are plotting how to kill even more Americans next time, these liberals spend all their energy attacking their own country.

No, 9/11 was not an inside job, but the next successful attack against America will have been helped to some degree by people like these.

Building a Mosque on the Flight 93 Crash Site?

Sound far-fetched?  Check it out here (via this LGF article).

I was stunned to see that the design for the Flight 93 crash site memorial is a star and crescent, a prominent symbol in Islam.  Inside the crescent, where the star would be, is actually a couple ponds, but showing an eerie resemblance to a kneeling man facing Mecca.

Facing Mecca?  Yeah, the whole design is aligned perfectly with Mecca.

I have no idea what the designer is thinking.  Either he is a flat out terrorist sympathizer, or else he is bending over backwards not to insult the Islamic world out of a heavy dose of liberal pseudo-guilt.

So come on down and pay your respects to the four terrorists martyrs who brought down one of the Great Satan’s airplanes.  Please remember to return your prayer mat to the visitor center when you are done.
